The Battlefield Extraction Assist Robot (BEAR)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6729745.stm

Really…?

Surely soldiers have enough to contend with; the horrors of war, being shot at by their own side (well, the Americans), post traumatic stress. Now, wounded, deep behind enemy lines, losing blood by the armful, they call for evac and are rescued by a big mechanical bear. Some of them will probably think that they’re hallucinating, or that they’ve already died. And presuming that they make it back, that they haven’t died of shock, or been crushed to death by its hydraulic arms, they’ll then have to deal with the rest of their regiment – who will definitely not be taking the piss out of them (until the day they do actually die) for having to be rescued by a robot bear with it’s reassuring teddy bear face.
